If you have ever been able to take a nice walk on the beach, with the sound of the waves crashing and feeling the calm and peacefulness that it brings, then you will enjoy the exhibition “Sea Strolls” by Gabriela Domville displayed at Hammond’s Gourmet Ice Cream in North Park, and presented by Arb By Kami.
Gabriela finds her inspiration by taking those strolls and observing the textures, patterns and colors found in the waves, sand, scenery and objects she encounters. Her work captures that peaceful serenity perfectly.
This exhibition is in two parts, the first are three dimensional pieces with painting surrounding the whole piece, creating more of a sculpture than a traditional painting, and the second are mixed media pieces where she uses the talent of a painter and fashion designer to combine paint, paper and fabric to give texture and life to her work.
The painting/sculptures are best viewed where the observer can walk around and see the whole piece, each side building to tell a story. Suspending these pieces from above would also be a nice way to display them, where they could spin freely and convey their secrets.
The multi-media pieces have an abundance of detail and texture which photos do not do justice. I could see something new in each piece as I went back for more viewings. Even the smallest of these hold many treasures that present themselves as you linger on them. Throughout all the pieces is a restrained palette that unifies the exhibition. I found it easy to go from piece to piece and feel the atmosphere that ties it all together. All of them stand well on their own, but if one were to collect several they would create a harmony, much like a quiet walk on the beach.
Gabriela’s work will be on display until 10/17/2016.
