With KAABOO Del Mar 2018 coming on fast, we thought we would take a look at some of the San Diego artists creating public art and appearing in the Art Fair this year.
Since her last appearance at KAABOO 2017, Melissa Walter has been busy. She had a short documentary film about her released by The Artist Odyssey, has done several artist’s talks, and has been in many shows around San Diego, including the Downtown Library (still on view until Septeber 16th), Vivid Space gallery, Mesa College Art Gallery, San Diego City College Gallery, the Oceanside Museum of Art and Quint gallery.
For KAABOO 2018 Melissa is creating her first large-scale sculptural work, continuing showing her skill at interpreting astrophysical phenomena and bringing a fresh vision to things that are notably hard to understand. Melissa says that she had learned a lot from her work this past year, especially in the sculptural piece that she created for Mesa College Art Gallery, which has helped her prepare for the new work. The new piece will greet visitors as they enter the Artwork & Palate space and as the viewer moves into the space the piece will change depending on the perspective. From what we’ve seen from her posts, it will be full of monumental goodness.

Brady, a surrealist with a penchant for humor and the unexpected, mixes animals and objects, vehicles and lush backgrounds, to create the unusual and captivating. He tells stories that invoke a sense of nature, nostalgia and whimsy, leaving the viewer with a lasting impression, something to ruminate on for a long time. He is currently showing at Sparks Gallery in downtown San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter, as well as at ArtHatch in Escondido.
For KAABOO this year Brady, with help from his wife Kelly, will be showing original paintings, a wide variety of prints for sale and drawing demonstrations. Brady paints with oil, and will have between 10 and 15 original paintings available, showcasing his unique style and mastery of the medium. He will also be have a wide variety of prints of his work to choose from, and will also have a choice of 4 different 5” x 7” prints available for free!
To help explain his conceptualizations, which always seems to be a point of fascination for people, he will also have drawing demonstrations throughout his time at KAABOO. We highly recommend stopping by, meeting Brady, and get lost in his surreal worlds.

Monty returns to KAABOO this year with live-painting, working on a sizeable piece over the three-day event. He will also have several of his works available. His work last year as half of the Kreashun team, created a 23’ x 6’ canvas piece that caught everyone’s eye as they walked by. Monty is currently has work all around the country, and most notably, for San Diego, in Sparks Gallery.
Monty may be painting a smaller canvas this year, but it will by no means be a small endeavour. Plan to stop by to see his cutting edge style and amazing skill.
